Fighter Aircraft Wiki

The A.D. Scout was an anti-airship fighter, designed by Harris Booth of the Air Department at the Admiralty. Later known unofficially as the 'Sparrow', the Scout was an extraordinary biplane with staggered single bay wings.

Made of wood with fabric covered surfaces, the Scout's unusual apperance resulted primarialy from the large mainplane gap being below, rather than above, the high mounted nacelle which housed the armament, pilot and engine. The rudders and large outsize tailplane were carried by four parallel tailbooms.[1]

Notes[]

  1. Two by each firm
  2. The intended armament of a single Davis recoilless gun, firing 2 lb (2 kg) shells, was never fitted due to the type's fragile consgtruction[1]
